The FOILS2SEA project focuses on resolving the key challenges in the naval sector for implementing hydrofoil technology and the use of hydrogen as marine fuel. Leveraging the consortium's prior experience, the project develops the hydrofoil technology and the onboard hydrogen propulsion system, addressing control, cost, and safety challenges to achieve the necessary level of maturity for universal application.
As a demonstrator, FOILS2SEA designs and manufactures a prototype of a small-length, versatile mission boat. This prototype uses a common hull and hydrofoil base for different cabin configurations, proving the robustness of the technologies under demanding operational conditions. Success in this vessel confirms the viability of implementing the technology in larger ships, proving that the solution is available for the sector.
This project is part of the Strategic Plan of EYEFOIL and ALOR TECH to develop a disruptive on-board control system (software and hardware), which achieves ensure the safety of the crew members of electric or powered boats. green hydrogen with hydro-wings, as well as establishing the standardization bases for its certification. Within the main lines of the Basque naval sector (which seeks to emerge again after the hard conversion of the late 20th century), we can consider that the project directly supports the following priority lines: digitalization, human capital, the environment, R&D&i, regulation (standardization and certification) and sustainable transport.
